For many years now, people watch tv and use a remote control to choose which channels they want to watch, whether it’s sports, movies, shows and many more. The Samsung remote is one of those types of remote controls that people use, specifically for the Samsung tv. The development of Samsung remote controls started in the 1970’s and overtime the remotes would have slight improvements. For example, there would be more buttons on the remote, giving the user more options on how to control their tv. In addition, “Over the past few years, Samsung has also kept its consumer base informed on its progress in developing new technology” (Yirka, 2022) which lets the consumers know of changes and improvements made to their devices. The remote would also get longer to fit the increasing number of buttons and colors would be added to some of the buttons indicated that there are different controls.

For the Samsung remote model BN59 to work, there should be two sets of triple A batteries. The batteries should both face the same direction with the negative side pressed to the spring. If the positive side of the batteries are pressed against the spring or the batteries are facing opposite directions, the remote won’t work

Figure 3

Like many other objects that require the use of batteries, there is a cover to keep the batteries secured. If the remote were to fall on the floor, the cover can keep the batteries from falling out. This specific cover has a unique way of being placed on and off the remote. To take off the cover you must press on the arrow and slide it to the direction the arrow is pointing. To put the cover back on you should slide the cover along the back side of the remote until you hear a small click which means it’s on the right way.

When using the remote, it’s important to consider the buttons you want to use. The red button at the top left is the power button and you can use it to turn the tv on and off. The button next to the power button at the top right is the source button and you can use it to choose which display you want the tv to show. Below those buttons are numbers from 1 to 0 and those are for which channel numbers you want the tv to show. For example, if you want to watch a specific movie and it’s on channel 550 then you should press 5 two times, then 0 and after a second the tv will navigate to that channel. If you want to go back to the previous channel, there is a button next to the 0 that says “pre-Ch” so if you click on that the tv will go back.

Figure 5

Right below the numbers to the left is the volume button and the plus sign at the upper part of that button is for increasing the volume while the minus sign at the lower part of the button is for decreasing it. To automatically decrease the volume to zero, there’s a mute button next to the volume button. To the right side of the mute button, there is a channel button which is meant to scroll up and down the channels by instead of clicking on the numbers. The “sleep” button sets a timer by the number of minutes until the tv turn off by itself. The button with the house icon is the home button which displays the home menu. The “guide” button displays multiple channels with information to help the user locate the program they want to watch. The “settings” button will navigate to options on which changes to make to the tv. The “info” button displays information about every channel. The arrows that point up, down, left and right help the user navigate through other applications such as Netflix.

Figure 6

The color buttons lettered “A” through “D” are shortcut buttons which applies to the corresponding function on the screen. The bottom 8 buttons underneath are control the display and video recording shown on tv.

Finally, the Samsung remote is set up and ready to use for the Samsung tv. It is important to place the batteries correctly within the remote so it can be used. The remote have multiple buttons and each of them function differently which benefits the user because the buttons help navigate through different features of the tv. These features make it easier to utilize the tv as all the channels along with applications can be accessed just from pressing a couple buttons.
